Dear all,
I came across this website while I was looking for information on multilingual families. I am conducting a research on non-native English couples who use English to communicate with each other (why they use English and the challenges they meet). I would very much appreciate it if I could find some couples who fit this criterion through this website. The participants will need to fill out an online survey and be interviewed regarding the above topic (online). You'd be amazed how such research can help you discover things about yourselves. If you feel like it, please, reply to this post and I will send you the full details of my research. This is a doctorate research and not a commercial one. The information you provide will be used for research purposes only and your identity will be protected. I am interested in this topic because my family is trilingual.
Many thanks,
Manal

hi !
I think that's not what you're looking for but anyway : i'm from Belgium, native french speaker, and speaking english to my 2y o since his birth. My english is really not perfect, but i want to do it anyway, good or bad, i don't know.
For now, my son speaks and understands english and french( from dad). when i say 'speaks', for now its words, no real sentences.
would it help you?

Hi ,
Would a French mum, a Nigerian dad who speaks Yoruba do? We speak English between us, but in our native languages to little one who speaks French, English and understands Yoruba.

Hi Sylvie,
Yes, I am looking for families like your family to participate in my research (around 10 families). Parents who speak two different languages, speak English to each other and speak in their native languages to their children (do not speak English to their children). I'd be very thankful if you'd send me an email to "ms.manal at gmail.com" and I will send you all the details of my research. Looking forward to hearing from you
!
Regards

Hi Sabrina,
It is so sweet of you to try to help me. Unfortunately, your family doesn't match the research participants' profiles. Trying to teach your child a second language is a great idea and you seem to succeed in doing so (despite that you think English is difficult for you) because he understands and utters words in English . I think you are brave, chapeau! Also, may be you can consider having him watch English cartoons, sending him to an English nursery, hiring a nanny who can speak English to him and looking for English-speaking friends to hang out with in your area.
Cheers

Hi,
My husband and I speak English to each other but I speak French to our children and he speaks Hebrew. We'd be happy to answer your questions. Would you be able to also provide some guidance? feed back on what we're doing perhaps, or studies/books/articles we can read to help us?
thank you,
ana

Hi Ana,
I can promise you to provide you with detailed findings after the study is done along with other studies and articles if you are interested. As for books, I am not sure which books you'd be interested in. I think the books I might be using are too technical but there are books written especially for parents that you can find by simply searching the Internet. Do you live in an English-speaking country? Can you send me your email address to ms.manal at gmail.com?
Many thanks,
M

Hello,
Would a French-English bilingual mother and an English-Italian bilingual father (with Polish) who speak English to each other, but Italian and French to our 2.5 year old son be of any use?

Hello,
My husband and I communicate in English. We have a two year old daughter and we live in Germany currently. I speak to our daughter in Mandarin Chinese and my husband speaks to our daughter in French as I'm originally from Taiwan and my husband is from France. Since we live in Germany, our daughter also learned German from her nanny. If you still need another participant, maybe we can help.
Best luck.

Hello there!
If you still need participants, here is our family:
Mom (me) from Finland, dad from Mexico, living in Montreal, Canada. We speak English to each other, mom Finnish to kids, dad Spanish, in addition kids go to daycare in French (we live in French speaking part of Canada). Children, 2 and 4 yrs, are exposed to English but so far do not speak it, since they are learning 3 other languages.
Feel free to get in touch if you are interested including us in your research.
