do we need a logopedist, or shall we wait? | Raising Children in More Than One Language | Forum

Hi!
I am so glad to have found this forum! I have a question about my oldest son who is nearly 5 (in March).
I speak Catalan to him, my native language. My husband speaks English to him (and to everybody else). And we live in the French-speaking part of Belgium, so my son has been exposed to French since he was very small.
He now speaks the three languages fluently.
The thing is, when he is speaks in Catalan, he has a problem pronouncing the rr. Catalan is a bit similar to Spanish but it is a different language. The rr sound is the same in Spanish and in Catalan, and I think the Finnish language also has it.
He does not have any issues with English sounds or French sounds.
So, I have been waiting and hoping that it would get better or go away, but it hasn´t. My questions are
1. Is it time to get help from a specialist, or should I wait?
2. I haven´t really looked into it, but as it is Catalan that he has difficulty with and, given that it is probably impossible to find a Catalan-speaking logopedist in Belgium, how would that work?
3. I imagine that any logopedist can teach the sound itself even if they do not speak the language, but would it be enough?
Thank you for reading! I look forward to your comments.

Dear Eva,
I would recommend to wait another year, because the /r/ is one of the last speech sounds in the development. And: I am sure the logopedisten in Belgium would be able to help in this case, if he would need help, after a year. Ányway, don't worry, it will probably resolve by itself.

Bonjour,
Je vous suggère la méthode Tomatis du Dr Alfred Tomatis qui propose une thérapie par le son. Voir le lien ci-dessous

Bonnes chance.
