I'm really in need of more participants for my survey regarding bilingual education!
Filling it out not only helps with my education but can contribute to the knowledge base
on educational practices and perhaps even influence future education standards and practices.....

Hi Rachel,

It would be great if you could give people an idea of who you are, what you are studying, what your research is and how the survey information will be used. Since you included the word "illegals" in the title of this forum post, people will also be curious to understand what that has to do with your research and whether that is your target audience for the survey.

Thanks,

Corey

I am an aspiring psychologist doing thesis work regarding attitudes on bilingual education. Since many people relate bilingualism and bilingual education to immigrants and illegal immigrants, I want to study this possible psychological relationship. My target audience is everyone in the USA, since that is where I;m studying bilingual education

Rachel,

I would like to encourage you to use the word undocumented rather than illegal.  Though it may seem commonly and widely used, it is a word that is dehumanizing as it describes an action rather than the status of a person.  It may also inhibit participants in your survey.

Additionally, After completing your survey, you don't ever use the term illegal (or undocumented) but rather "hispanic american" in your question.  Therefore your survey questions don't deal with the issue of immigration status.  You are only asking questions about the rights of "Hispanic Americans" (citizens of the US), the individual being surveyed about themselves and their experience with bilingual education.

best wishes in your research,

L

Hi, I just saw this and tried to do the survey, but it is closed.  If you are still interested in info, I did my Master´s research on attitudes toward language and language-learning and their impact on bilingual education.  I´d be happy to share my findings with you, learn about your research, or just discuss in general.  You may contact me at berzunza@cox.net.  ¡Suerte!
