This is a review of the interesting articles, Tweets, Facebook posts and more which took place this week in and around our Multilingual Living universe. Thank you everyone for sharing your tips with me! Keep them coming!
Multilinguals Are Amazing!
Today was my Raising Bilingual Children seminar at Bellevue College. What an amazing group of individuals were present! There were multilinguals, bilinguals, monolinguals. There was a pediatrician who attended because she wanted to learn how better to serve her multilingual patients. There was a couple who was trying to figure out how best to start introducing languages with their older child (and if it was even doable).
Each time I give a seminar, I am in awe of the variety of multilingual families in the world. Living in the United States, each must carve out a language path on their own as the resources are so very limited. It is always an honor for me to meet each of you in person, via email, on the Facebook page and in the Twitter world. Together we inspire one another!
Great Discussions!
Thank you everyone for responding to my Language Challenge 101 video! Wow, it really triggered some passionate discussions. I am planning on doing another video diary next week in response to the amazing comments that came in and the resulting conversations I had. I will also include some responses from experts to last week’s video diary.
These conversations are fantastic! Please keep them coming!
Bilingualism on the Brain
It seems that each day more articles appear on the topic of bilingualism and the benefits for our brains. Here are a few:
- Bilingualism Good for the Brain – Some great research information from Albert Costa and Ellen Bialystok
- Building a More Resilient Brain – An another interesting article sent to me by Prof. Rubén Rumbaut at the University of California, Irvine. It includes more fascinating research from Ellen Bialystok as well.
- Can bilingualism improve your brain’s multitasking power? Je ne sais pas – Thank you Robin Pearson for sending me to this article in the Chicago Tribune.
- ‘Mum and dad made me multi-task better’ – an article from BBC News via @langology.
