Thank you for this tip, Jennifer, and your generous discount!

Hurry and play this Spanish language activity outdoors before summer is over! You can change all of the sentences to your language.

¡Tamal Caliente! (Hot Tamale!)

Start by making some water balloons.

Once you have the balloons ready, have everyone stand in a circle or in two lines across from one another.  Everyone pretends that the balloons are ‘muy caliente’ (very hot) and kids have to ‘tira rapidamente’ (toss quickly) back and forth to one another.  Have everyone call out ‘muy caliente’ and ‘tira rapidamente’ over and over again.

When a balloon breaks, encourage children to ask for another ‘quiero otro por favor’.  The more balloons you have, the more discussion will take place!

Another fun alternative is to use beach towels and toss ‘el tamal caliente’ (the hot tamale) back and forth to one other.

Get ready to have fun and to get very wet!  What a fun way to finish off summer with a bunch of Spanish fun!  Do you have alternate ways to incorporate this activity with your children or students?

And if you like what you see at Bilingual Fun, make sure to email Jennifer and ask for your 10% discount!

Great activity, Jen!
I just happen to have some extra water balloons that we bought at the beginning of the summer. This will be a good one for this weekend.

Fantastic!! So glad that you will be able to incorporate this so easily. I love, love, love your Mommy Maestra blog. Please never stop doing it (or bilingual homeschooling)! So fantastic to have other bilingual homeschoolers to “hang” with in cyberspace. I’m loving it!
