Multilingual Living reader, Susie, sent in the following tip for how she shares her languages with her multilingual children (and how to get them to share it back!). Thank you Susie for taking the time to send in this wonderful tip!
When traveling in the car with my children, I like to play symphony music and make up stories that fit the mood of the music being played.
Often, my children will chime in with their own contributions to the stories. Sometimes, I use English. Other times, I tell the stories in Spanish. Whatever language I’m using to tell the story is the language my children will use to share ideas for the tale.
It’s a great way to improve listening, speaking, and vocabulary in any language. Plus, the children’s vivid imaginations make the story telling a wonderfully creative activity that the whole family can enjoy!
