During our multilingual parenting journey there are times when we need some big doses of encouragement. It could come from just feeling burnt out with parenting all together, let alone adding in multilingualism. It could come when our children go off to school and magically stop speaking our language in a matter of days.
Whatever the reason, there is nothing like a good old multilingual pep talk from someone we trust and who has our best multilingual interests in mind!
To start with, make sure that you have some kind of support. It may be your spouse. Perhaps it is another multilingual parent? Or maybe it is from a multilingual forum?
Wherever you go to find support and encouragement, make sure to turn to this resource when you start to feel your multilingual resolve crumbling. This is when it is time to restablish your reasons for raising your children bilingually and biculturally.
Don’t give up. There will be always be difficult times along with the easy phases. When the times get tough, keep things in perspective and remind yourself that what you are doing WILL pay off in the long run.
Remember that raising multilingual children requires a lot of patience, resolve and faith. Just take it one day at a time and before you know it your multilingual children will be thanking you for everything you have done!
